World Fact Book Provides comprehensive background on a per-country
basis. Food and Agriculture Organization
of the United Nations (FOA) On-line and multi-lingual database on
a variety of topics from food supply and food aid, to agriculture production,
trade indices and forestry data. OECD
Link to their Statistics. Luxembourg Income Study
Investigates issues of poverty in 25 countries. Contains database of household
income surveys and employment. UN
World Income Inequality Database (WIID) Has down-loadable database
which contains data on intracountry inequality. UNDP
World Development Indicators Provides access to indicators in an on-line
(HTML) or download-able format, in Excel or PDF format. Site also contains
on-line and download-able versions of recent Human Development reports.

of indicators;clicking on an indicator shows the world's ranking. World Bank Data
and Statistics Source of many indicators and statistics. On-line database
contains data from the last 5 years. World Bank Gender
Statistics Information available on a per-country basis on a wide-range
of gender issues. World Health
Organization Statistical Information System (WHOSIS) health-related
epidemiological and statistical information available from the WHO programmes.
World Resources Institute
EarthTrends An Environmental Information Portal, contains stastics
and database information on a variety of environmental topics, such as
Water Resources, Biodiversity, Agriculture and Food, and Environmental
Governance and Institutions. Research Portals ABYZ News Links Links to newspapers and news media around the world. Carnegie
Endowment for International Peace Their Library Page contains many
links on international affairs, on topics ranging from peace and conflict
resolution to business and the economy. CountryWatch.com's Database Some information is readily accessible, other is restricted to paid subscribers. Field
Guide to the US Economy Site contains a Resource page that contains
links to intereresting sources. Although their focus is on the United
States, their resource pages contains some good international resources

of Amsterdam's Sociology Department's page of Social Inequality and Class
Contains links to many sources of data and information and Social Inequality
and class. Their topics
page contains similar information on other issues. University
of Auckland's OFFSTATS Their library's Official Statistics on the
Web is a portal to free and easily-accessible statistics. University
of Maryland Library's International Statistics Page Links to a wide
range of statistics. University
of Michigan's Stastical Resources on the Web Comprehensive Portal
of International Statistics. Grouped by main topic indexes. World Gazetter Provides information about current population of countries, their administrative divisions, cities and towns as well as images of the current national flags. On-line Atlases and GIS Applications Demis
World Map Server Web-based GIS applications that shows geographic
information on a per-country basis. Digital
Atlas of the United States An online atlas that focuses on US issues.
Contains many maps on topics of income, poverty, and race. Much of the
data is from 1989-1990. Export Statics Express GIS tool which provides detailed information about exports from the United States. It provides the ability to draw maps of: 1)Global Distribution of U.S. or a State's Exports 2) State-by-State Exports to a Selected Market and 3) Export Product Profile to a Selected Market. The Geography
Network Portal of information about GIS and on-line map-making. Includes
links to other on-line atlases, including web-based interface GIS applications. Great
Britian Historical GIS Project Provides a historical perspective of
intra-UK issues using maps. Historical
Atlas of the Twentieth Century Explores trends in world data. Includes
excellent bibliography, including links to other Atlas sources and many

provides quick facts about individual countries. Odden's Booksmarks Large portal to many maps and topics on mapping. Organizations Studying Issues of Globalization and Inequality Center for Global Development
Interested in reducing poverty and inequality through policy-oriented
work. Center
for Popular Economics Globalization Briefs This arm of the Center
of Popular Economics focuses on social impact of Globalization, including
international finance, trade and production. Economic Policy Institute
US-based thinktank that performs research on sustainable economies and
living standards of working people. Some of their research is focused
on intra-US issues, though they have a section on Trade and Globalization.
Web features include brief economic snapshots of current economic news. Global Policy Network
Focuses on state of working people in the global economy. Provides per-country
reports, research and analysis. Global Trade Watch
Part of the Public Citizen organization, it seeks to promote Democracy
by challenging globalization. Inequality.org
News and information and the gap in income, health and wealth. Includes

Center for Migration, Ethnicity and Citizenship Studies issues of

sans Frontieres/Doctors without Borders Nobel-Peace-Prize-winning
organization provides health care services to victims of conflicts, epidemics,
and disasters, and to people who lack health care services due to social
